CIMMYT is one of 16 international centers that are managed by the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research or CGIAR.  

"CGIAR's mission is to contribute to food security and poverty eradication in developing countries through research, partnership, capacity building, and policy support. The CGIAR promotes sustainable agricultural development based on the environmentally sound management of natural resources."

CIMMYT like all of the other CGIAR research centers is an organization dedicated to the advancement of technology for agricultural production in the developing world.  CIMMYT is directly involved in the genetic development of improved wheat, maize and triticale varieties around the world.  They also work on improved management practices for cereal production.
