Nitrogen
Conference, Improving NUE using Precision Sensing
Waseca, Minnesota,
Southern Research and Outreach Center,
August 7-9, 2006The Southern Research and
Outreach Center (SROC) is located on US highway 14 about 15 miles west of
Interstate 35 and about 40 miles north of the Iowa/Minnesota border. Or just
for those flying to the workshop, the closest major airport is located at
Minneapolis-St. Paul (MSP) -- a 75 mile drive from the airport to SROC. |

The 2006 Nitrogen
Workshop is less than two months away. To assist you in making travel plans
and us in preparing for the event, we are listing items below that should be
addressed by August 1 at the latest. They are:
-
Title: Improving NUE Using Crop Sensing
-
Objectives:
-
To delineate components needed within functional
algorithms that employ active sensors.
-
To develop agronomic relationships between active
sensors and N management for other crops.
-
To share ideas and concepts relative to improved NUE
for corn production.
-
To discuss results from the current regional project
and identify improvements needed for collaborative sensor-based
research.
-
Registration:
To register for the workshop, send name,
title, affiliation, e-mail address, and phone number to Deanne Nelson at
nelso191@umn.edu. All must register. To help us, earlier (by July 20) is
better than later. Graduate students are encouraged to attend.
Within the objectives listed above, we
encourage you to present your findings at the workshop. Please send your
presentation title, preferred objective number, and a short 2-3 sentence
description of your talk to Deanne Nelson at
nelso191@umn.edu by July 27. We will prepare a program based on
this information on August 1. The agenda and last minute details will be
sent electronically to you at that time.
-
Location: Southern Research and Outreach Center
35838 120th St.
Waseca, MN 56093-4521
- Waseca
is located about 15 miles west of I35 and 30 miles north of I90 in southern
Minnesota
- The
SROC office and meeting area is located in a grove of oak trees on the south
side of U.S. Hwy 14 ≈ 1 mile west of the intersection with MN Hwy 13 in
downtown Waseca. A more complete map will be furnished at a later date.
Monday, August 7 through Wednesday noon,
August 9. We will start with a picnic dinner beginning around 6:00 p.m. on
August 7. On August 8, the program will run from 8:00 a.m. through 5:00 p.m.
with lunch served at noon. The program will resume at 8:00 a.m. on the 9th
and conclude with noon lunch. Breakfast on the 8th and 9th
and dinner on the 8th will be on your own.
Blocks of rooms have been
set aside at four motels; two in Waseca and two in Owatonna, a larger
community located about 15 miles east of Waseca. See attachment for details.
Reservations need to be made by June 30 to guarantee the reduced rate at one
of the Waseca motels.
This information along with updates will
appear on the Oklahoma State website
http://www.nue.okstate.edu as we get nearer to August 7-9. Stay tuned
for thoughts and ideas regarding a raffle and other “light activities”
during the workshop.
Please do not
hesitate to contact the Minnesota planning and host group for further
information.
